Statue of Junípero Serra (San Francisco)

The statue of Junípero Serra in Golden Gate Park was a thirty-foot-tall bronze monument that once stood near the Music Concourse. Dedicated in November nineteen oh seven, the figure was sculpted by the noted deaf artist Douglas Tilden and cast in Chicago. Its granite base, designed by architect Edgar Mathews, incorporated stone from the Monterey site where Serra was believed to have first landed in California.
