The Doughboy (San Francisco)

The Doughboy stands at the edge of a meadow in Golden Gate Park, identified by a seven-foot boulder topped with a bronze figure of an infantryman. Unlike many war memorials that show a soldier mid-battle, this figure stands with his sleeves rolled up and his collar open, holding a wreath to his chest. It was designed by M. Earl Cummings, a San Francisco park commissioner and sculptor who created numerous works throughout the city.
