Tobin House

The Tobin House, located at nineteen sixty-nine California Street, is defined by a striking architectural incongruity: a massive, ornate stone archway on its side that leads to absolutely nothing. Built in nineteen fifteen and designed by the architect Willis Polk, the house was intended by newspaper magnate Michael Henry de Young to be the first half of a pair of identical mansions for his two daughters.
