Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center sits on a sprawling sixty-two-acre campus west of Twin Peaks, distinguished by its large-scale, modern facility that integrates LEED silver certification with expansive views and natural light. It began in eighteen sixty-six as an almshouse founded to support Gold Rush pioneers who found themselves destitute. Originally a four-story wooden structure on what was once the San Miguel Rancho, the site became a self-sufficient community where residents grew food and tended livestock to survive.
