Helen Wills Playground Park

The Helen Wills Playground is marked by a vintage green sign with white letters that swings from a slender metal bar above the sidewalk near the corner of Larkin and Broadway. Established in nineteen fifteen as the Spring Valley Playground, the four-acre site was renamed in nineteen twenty-nine to honor Helen Wills, a California native and one of the most successful tennis players of the twentieth century.
