Pier 31

Pier thirty-one is defined by its exceptionally wide, neoclassical bulkhead building, a feature that distinguishes it from its neighbors along the Embarcadero. Constructed in nineteen seventeen and nineteen eighteen, this pier and its adjacent structures were built on reclaimed land, part of a massive effort to transform tidal mudflats into the city’s working waterfront. It is a recognized contributor to the Port of San Francisco’s Embarcadero Historic District.
