Between nineteen seventy-five and nineteen ninety-five, the building at seventy Twelfth Street operated as a hub for experimental art. Founded by Carl Loeffler, the organization known as La Mamelle, and later as Art Com, functioned as an alternative exhibition and performance space in the South of Market area. The facility housed a library, hosted screenings, and supported multidisciplinary work ranging from mail art and conceptual photography to performance and video.
