Finocchio's Club

event

The building at five hundred six Broadway in North Beach once held Finocchio’s Club, a center for female impersonation that operated from nineteen thirty-six until nineteen ninety-nine. You can identify the former site by its location above the space that housed Enrico’s Café. The club evolved from a speakeasy called the Two Hundred One Club, which Joe Finocchio opened on Stockton Street during the late nineteen twenties. After police raids prompted a move to this larger Broadway address, the club became a world-renowned venue for drag revues featuring performers who sang, danced, and bantered with crowds.
