Grace Marchant Garden

The Grace Marchant Garden is a cascade of greenery and flowers built directly along the wooden Filbert Steps on the steep eastern slope of Telegraph Hill. In nineteen forty-nine, Grace Marchant moved into a home at the corner of Napier Lane and the Filbert Steps. At the time, the hillside was an informal garbage dump filled with discarded furniture, bedsprings, and demolished cottage debris.
