Greenwich Steps

The Greenwich Steps are a long, tiered climb of concrete and red brick that ascend the steep eastern slope of Telegraph Hill toward Coit Tower. These stairs are distinguished by the lush, self-planted gardens that spill over their edges, a project begun in the nineteen thirties by residents like Valetta Heslet who sought to reclaim the rocky, overgrown hillside.
