The Lobero Theatre is recognizable by its white stucco walls, red tile roof, and the arched openings of its Spanish Colonial Revival design. Founded in eighteen seventy-three as an opera house by Italian immigrant Giuseppe Lobero, the venue holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating theater in California. It originally occupied a converted adobe schoolhouse, serving as a hub for everything from opera and vaudeville to political conventions and skating rinks.
