Dune Coffee Roasters occupies a space in Santa Barbara rooted in a partnership between founders Julia Mayer and Todd Stewart. They opened their first shop in two thousand nine at the corner of State Street and Figueroa, using an espresso machine loaned to them by friends. The name reflects a dual inspiration: the couple’s shared favorite work of science fiction and the coastal geography of California, where sand dunes serve as natural protection from storms and tides.
