The Orena Adobe

The Orena Adobe is marked by its thick, earthen walls and a low-slung, red-tiled roof, characteristic of the Spanish Colonial building tradition in downtown Santa Barbara. This site consists of two distinct adobe structures, the first built in eighteen forty-nine and the second in eighteen fifty-eight, connected by a rear patio and structures added during a nineteen twenties renovation. Originally constructed as a warehouse for coastal trade goods, the property was transformed into a family residence after Gaspar Orena married into the prominent De La Guerra family and purchased the buildings in eighteen fifty-four.
