The James G. Blaine Mansion at two thousand Massachusetts Avenue Northwest is a grand red brick structure that represents the last of the palatial residences from the late nineteenth century that once surrounded Dupont Circle. Designed by architect John Fraser, the mansion is a striking blend of Châteauesque, Queen Anne, and Second Empire styles. It features a porte-cochere over an original cobblestone driveway that offers a glimpse into the Gilded Age when the circle functioned as an exclusive hub for Washington’s power players.
