The Georgia State Capitol is distinguished by its gleaming gold dome, which sits high above the downtown business district. Completed in eighteen eighty-nine, the building was constructed on a hill that previously held the first Atlanta City Hall and Fulton County Courthouse. Designed in a Neoclassical style by architects Willoughby J. Edbrooke and Franklin P. Burnham, it remains the primary office for Georgia's government, housing the executive offices and the chambers of the General Assembly.
