The Atlanta Marriott Marquis is recognizable by its bulging, parabolic base, which has earned it the local nickname the Pregnant Building. Completed in nineteen eighty-five, the fifty-two-story structure was designed by Atlanta architect John Portman. Portman, who acted as both the designer and the developer for the project, aimed to reshape urban hotel design by focusing on the guest experience within the interior space.
