Odd Fellows Building and Auditorium

The Odd Fellows Building and Auditorium on Auburn Avenue is defined by a series of terra-cotta and stone heads carved into its red-brick facade. When these structures were completed in nineteen twelve and nineteen thirteen, the sculptures—which feature distinct African features—served as a public declaration of Black pride and professional achievement. Designed by architect William Augustus Edwards and built under the leadership of businessman Benjamin Jefferson Davis, the six-story tower and its attached auditorium provided a secure headquarters for the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal organization.
