1850 House Museum & Gift Shop

The eighteen-fifty House is a row house at five twenty-three Saint Ann Street, distinguished by the intricate cast-iron railings on its balconies. These railings feature the letters A and P woven into the pattern, representing the Almonaster and Pontalba families. The building is part of the Lower Pontalba Building, which flanks Jackson Square. It was commissioned in eighteen forty-nine by Micaela Almonester, Baroness de Pontalba, who intended to bring a sense of Parisian scale and elegance to the city.
