The Cabildo Museum

The Cabildo is a heavy, cream-colored masonry building along Jackson Square, easily identified by the series of ground-floor Spanish arches and the third-floor French-style mansard roof. Built between seventeen ninety-five and seventeen ninety-nine, this site housed the Spanish colonial government after the Great New Orleans Fire of seventeen eighty-eight destroyed its predecessor. It has held various roles, from city hall to the seat of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
