New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum

The New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum is marked by its modest size, consisting of two small rooms joined by a cramped corridor at seven twenty-four Dumaine Street. Founded in nineteen seventy-two by local artist Charles Massicot Gandolfo, the museum was created to explore the mysteries, history, and folklore of Louisiana Voodoo. Gandolfo, who earned the nickname Voodoo Charlie, gathered an eclectic collection of artifacts including antique dolls, talismans, and taxidermy to present the religion as a legitimate spiritual tradition blending African, Haitian, and Catholic influences.
