Gansevoort Peninsula is defined by its massive, five-point-five-acre footprint of solid ground jutting into the Hudson River, a departure from the piers that characterize much of the surrounding waterfront. Once an industrial sanitation site home to a municipal incinerator, the area has been reclaimed as a green space. Visitors encounter a multi-use sports field, a salt marsh on the northern edge, and Manhattan’s first public beach along the southern border.
