Monongahela Incline

The Monongahela Incline is a funicular that scales the steep face of Mount Washington, once known as Coal Hill. You can identify it by the cars climbing the mountainside, which follow a path that rises three hundred sixty-nine feet at an angle of thirty-five degrees. It opened on May twenty-eight, eighteen seventy, to help workers living atop the hill reach their jobs in the river valley below.
