Agnes R. Katz Plaza

The most striking feature of Agnes R. Katz Plaza is the twenty-five-foot-tall bronze fountain at its center, with conjoined, terraced cones that spout cascading rivulets of water. Designed by artist Louise Bourgeois and installed in nineteen ninety-nine, the sculpture was her largest public commission in the United States at the time. The fountain’s spiraling shape was intended to echo the city’s hilly topography and the nearby Allegheny River, and it is heated to ensure the water flows throughout the entire year.
