Seventeen twenty-seven Bedford Avenue is a three-story brick building in the Hill District, built in the eighteen forties. This structure served as the childhood home of playwright August Wilson, who lived here with his mother and five siblings from nineteen forty-five until nineteen fifty-eight. During those years, the property functioned as a multi-ethnic hub, housing a Jewish market in the front, an Italian watch and shoe repair shop next door, and several families in the apartments above.
