Koppers Building

The Koppers Building is distinguished by its dramatic, chateau-like copper roof that rises four hundred seventy-five feet above the intersection of Grant Street and Seventh Avenue. Completed in nineteen twenty-nine, this thirty-five-story skyscraper features a facade of Indiana limestone resting on a heavy, polished granite base. It was commissioned by financier Andrew Mellon as the headquarters for the Koppers Company, a chemical corporation that became a major industrial force in Pittsburgh.
