Gulf Tower

The Gulf Tower is a forty-four-story Art Deco skyscraper at seven hundred seven Grant Street, instantly recognizable by the stepped-pyramid crown at its peak. Completed in nineteen thirty-two as the headquarters for the Gulf Oil Corporation, the building was designed by architects Trowbridge and Livingston with a top inspired by the ancient Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. It stood as the tallest building in Pittsburgh for nearly four decades until the U.S. Steel Tower surpassed it in nineteen seventy-one.
