Union Trust Building

The Union Trust Building is defined by a massive, steep-pitched mansard roof adorned with intricate terra-cotta dormers and two chapel-like towers that rise above the Grant Street skyline. Constructed between nineteen fifteen and nineteen seventeen for industrialist Henry Clay Frick, the building stands on land once occupied by Saint Paul’s Catholic Cathedral. While legends suggest the cathedral's leadership mandated the building’s religious appearance through a deed covenant, the design simply reflected the Flemish-Gothic style popular for grand projects of that era.
