The Roberto Clemente Bridge is distinguished by its distinct Aztec Gold color and its status as one of the Three Sisters, a trio of nearly identical bridges spanning the Allegheny River. Completed in nineteen twenty-eight, it is the first self-anchored suspension bridge of its kind built in the United States. Unlike traditional suspension bridges that anchor their main cables into the ground, this design allows the tension to be held by the bridge deck itself.
