Mancini’s Bread Company is a Pittsburgh institution defined by its signature Italian twist loaf, a long, braided bread with a golden crust and soft center. Founded in nineteen twenty-six by Italian immigrant James Mancini, the business began in a one-room storefront in what is now the McKees Rocks area. James Mancini learned to bake at age fourteen and initially produced only about one hundred loaves each night, which he delivered to local families the next morning.
