The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is defined by two hundred and twenty-one slender concrete columns, each twenty-five feet tall, which stand within a vast, subterranean chamber of eighty-seven thousand five hundred square feet. Built in nineteen twenty-six, this cavernous space served as an underground reservoir designed to hold fifteen million gallons of the city’s drinking water.
