Christ Church Cathedral is defined by its sandstone Gothic Revival masonry and a full city block of green space known as the Cathedral Close, which sits as a quiet, stone-walled campus among downtown’s high-rise towers. Established in eighteen thirty-nine when Texas was still an independent republic, it is the city's oldest continuously worshiping congregation. The current building, completed in eighteen ninety-three, serves as the mother church for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
