Sabine Street Bridge

The Sabine Street Bridge spans Buffalo Bayou with a distinct concrete tee beam construction. Built in nineteen twenty-four, this bridge stands as the final remaining example from the city of Houston's nineteen twenties civic improvement program. It was designed by city bridge engineer W. W. Washburn to create a reliable crossing over the winding waterway, replacing earlier wooden footbridges that had linked the historic Fourth Ward and Sixth Ward neighborhoods since the late nineteenth century.
