The Emily Morgan Hotel rises thirteen stories above the intersection of East Houston Street and Avenue E, easily identified by the rows of stone gargoyles that cling to its facade. Each of these carved figures depicts a specific medical ailment, a nod to the building’s original purpose as the Medical Arts Building. Designed by architect Ralph Cameron and completed in nineteen twenty-six, the structure functioned for decades as a professional hub for doctors and dentists, complete with its own hospital.
