Kusam-ibn-Abbas mausoleum

The Kusam-ibn-Abbas mausoleum is recognized by its location at the northern, uppermost end of the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, where it stands as the oldest and most prominent structure in the complex. This site, built around the tomb of Qutham ibn Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, helped establish this area as a major pilgrimage center. Architectural elements here, including the mosque and shrine, were constructed and reconstructed between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries, with extensive work carried out during the reign of Amir Timur.
