Chorsu

The Chorsu in Samarkand is a hexagonal domed building located just behind the Sher-Dor Madrasah. Its name, which translates from Persian as four paths, refers to its historical position at a critical intersection where roads from Bukhara, Tashkent, and Shahrisabz once met. While the site originally hosted a market as early as the fifteenth century, the structure standing here today dates to seventeen eighty-five, commissioned by the Emir Shohmurad of Bukhara.
