The Sherdor Madrasa is identifiable by the large mosaic panels on its main entrance arch, which depict two golden, tiger-like beasts chasing white gazelles beneath a radiant sun. Built between sixteen nineteen and sixteen thirty-six, this seventeenth-century religious school sits on the eastern side of Registan Square. Governor Yalangtush Bahadur ordered its construction on the site of a dismantled older building to mirror the Ulugh Beg Madrasa standing directly opposite.
