Shah-i-Zinda necropolis

historic

The Shah-i-Zinda necropolis is a collection of narrow, ascending lanes lined with dozens of blue-tiled mausoleums. These structures create a continuous corridor of intricate ceramic patterns, geometric mosaics, and vaulted domes that climb the southern slopes of the ancient Afrosiab hill. Built between the eleventh and nineteenth centuries, the site served as a final resting place for Timurid royalty, military leaders, and prominent members of the clergy.
