Islam Karimov's Statue

The bronze statue of Islam Karimov stands on an avenue near Registan Square. It depicts the first president of independent Uzbekistan, who was born and raised in this city. Unveiled in September two thousand seventeen, the monument honors the leader who declared the country’s independence in nineteen ninety-one and governed until his death in two thousand sixteen.
