Birtley Towers is a nine-story residential building defined by its U-shaped profile and a grand, circular driveway featuring a prominent brick port cochère. Completed in nineteen thirty-four, it stands as an early adaptation of the American skyscraper style for Australian apartment living. Architect Emil Sodersten designed the structure to occupy the site of a former mansion named Birtley House, utilizing textured face brickwork that transitions from darker shades at the base to lighter tones toward the top.
