Hotel Palisade

The Hotel Palisade commands the high ground of Millers Point, its five-story brick and sandstone frame rising tall above the surrounding harbour precinct. Built in nineteen fifteen and nineteen sixteen, the structure is a prominent example of Federation Free Style architecture, with design influences drawn from the British Arts and Crafts movement. It replaced an earlier eighteen-eighties hotel, taking its name from a colonial palisade fence that once divided the local streets.
