The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is identifiable by its distinctive horseshoe-shaped tower and a massive, sweeping copper canopy that hangs over the entrance. Opened in December nineteen sixty-six, this building was designed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in association with the local firm Laurie and Heath. At the time of its completion, it held the title of the largest brick structure in the Southern Hemisphere and served as Australia’s first major five-star international hotel.
