The Hotel Windsor stands on Spring Street, defined by its twin cupola-capped towers and the Stawell stone facade that anchors this corner of the Parliament Precinct. Opened in eighteen eighty-four as The Grand Hotel, it is the only purpose-built grand hotel from the Victorian era still operating in Melbourne. The building became a focal point for the city’s political life due to its proximity to Parliament House, and in eighteen ninety-eight, the drafting committee for the Constitution of Australia finalized the nation’s founding document within one of its suites.
