The Olderfleet complex is marked by its elaborate Venetian Gothic facade, featuring pointed-arch windows and decorative columns that date back to the late eighteen eighties. These structures, including the Olderfleet building itself, were completed between eighteen eighty-seven and eighteen ninety, reflecting the rapid prosperity of Melbourne’s post-gold rush boom. Designed by architect William Pitt, the buildings once served wool brokers and shipping merchants who required proximity to the wharves along the Yarra River.
