St Peter's Abbey

St Peter’s Abbey features high, stone walls that enclose a large garden containing a vineyard, an orchard, and stone ruins. Founded in the late seventh century by the missionary Saint Amandus on the Blandijn Hill, the abbey grew into a site of power. By the tenth century, the location served as the primary burial ground for the rulers of the County of Flanders and operated as one of the wealthiest monasteries in the region.
