Book Tower

The Book Tower rises sixty-four meters above the Ghent skyline, a stark, modernist concrete pillar shaped like a Greek cross. Designed by architect Henry van de Velde and inaugurated in nineteen forty-two, it sits on the highest ground in the city. It was envisioned as a fourth tower to stand alongside the medieval Belfry, the Saint Nicholas Church, and Saint Bavo’s Cathedral.
