Graslei

The Graslei is a historic quay on the right bank of the River Leie, recognizable by its unique, unbroken row of medieval and Renaissance guildhalls with elaborate stepped gables. Between the eleventh and sixteenth centuries, this harbor was the engine of Ghent’s economy, serving as the primary grain storage and trading port for a city that was once the second largest in Europe, trailing only Paris.
