The Oude Vismijn, or Old Fish Market, stands out for its Baroque gatehouse on Sint-Veerleplein, topped by a statue of the sea god Neptune. Below him, two other sculptures represent the rivers Scheldt and Leie, which meet nearby. This gateway has marked the entrance to this site since sixteen eighty-nine, when the city moved its fish trade from the Groentenmarkt to this spot along the water.
