The Peace Bridge is a striking, bright red tubular steel structure that spans the Bow River. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the bridge uses a double-helix truss system that allows it to cross the river without any piers in the water, a requirement meant to protect the local environment. Its distinctive shape, which resembles a giant finger-trap puzzle, stands out against the river and the city skyline in colors chosen to match the flags of both Canada and Calgary.
