Prince's Island Park is a twenty-hectare urban park nestled within a bend of the Bow River, marked by its flat, sprawling green spaces and a lagoon that separates the island from the downtown shore. While it draws visitors today for its festivals and riverfront trails, the land itself is entirely man-made. In eighteen eighty-six, a Quebec lumberman named Peter Anthony Prince founded the Eau Claire Lumber Mill on this embankment. To better transport logs floating down from Kananaskis, his company dug a channel through the riverbank, inadvertently carving this island out of the landscape.
