The Chinese United Church on Second Avenue South West stands out as a mid-twentieth-century brick structure, built between nineteen fifty-three and nineteen fifty-four. Designed by the architect Maxwell Bates, the building replaced a smaller mission house that had served Calgary’s Chinese population since the early nineteen hundreds.
